How to Split a PDF
- 1
Choose the PDF you want to split.
- 2
Pick a split method: every page, every N pages, or custom ranges like 1-3, 4-6.
- 3
Click Split PDF, then download individual PDFs or all parts as one ZIP.
Example
A scanned 30-page batch contains ten 3-page invoices. Choose “Every N pages”, enter 3 and get ten separate invoice PDFs.
Choose a Split Mode for the Result You Need
Use ranges when you know the sections you need, such as 1-3, 4-7, 8-10. Each comma-separated group becomes a separate PDF; pages inside one group can also be listed individually. Use every page to make one file per page. Use fixed size to divide a long document into groups of the same number of pages, with a shorter final group if necessary.
The numbers in this tool are positions in the PDF, beginning at 1. They can differ from page numbers printed on a cover, introduction or appendix. Check the document in a reader before entering ranges. A ten-page document with an unnumbered cover still has positions 1 through 10; its printed page 1 may be the second position.
Download and Check Each Part
Processing creates a list of output files with individual download controls. Download one part first and confirm its first page, last page and page count. For several parts, Download all as ZIP creates one archive in your browser, so you need only one download. Extract the archive on your device to access the PDFs. ZIP exports support up to 1,000 parts and 200 MB; use individual downloads or smaller ranges beyond that limit.
Keep the tab open until the parts you need are saved, because the generated PDFs remain in browser memory. Starting over or leaving the page clears that working state. Give downloaded parts meaningful names when sending them to different recipients. Splitting separates pages; it does not automatically determine which pages contain sensitive information.
Split, Extract or Delete Pages?
Split PDF is the best choice when one source should produce several documents. Extract PDF Pages is simpler when you only need one new file containing selected pages. Delete PDF Pages creates one file containing everything except the selected pages. All three operations create new files and leave the file you selected on disk unchanged.
For example, split a twenty-page packet into a cover letter, a report and an appendix for separate delivery. Extract a two-page receipt from the same packet if only that receipt is needed. If you are removing a mistaken scan from the packet, use Delete PDF Pages instead. Review the output as a new document, including any forms or signatures that were important in the original.
What It Does and Current Limits
- Each result is a full-quality copy of the selected pages.
- Download individual PDFs or one ZIP for multiple parts. ZIP exports support up to 1,000 files and 200 MB combined.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.
